A Summer of Connection and Celebration
Written by Jane Salgado
This summer was full of opportunities for the BYU Law community to gather, reconnect, and strengthen the mission of the Law School. From raising scholarship funds on the golf course to welcoming the newest class of students, honoring our founders, and celebrating milestone reunions, we are grateful for everyone who was able to come and attend these wonderful events!
BYU Law Alumni “Give Back” Golf Tournament
On August 1, alumni and friends came together at Thanksgiving Point Golf Club for the annual BYU Law Alumni “Give Back” Golf Tournament. This year’s competition was especially competitive, with five teams tied at the top of the scoreboard at either 57 (15 under) or 56 (16 under) par. Afterwards, participants enjoyed lunch chartered by Texas Roadhouse and Wallaby’s and hearing from Law School Dean David H. Moore and Noah Leituala, a 1L student who spoke on behalf of Achievement Fellow scholarship recipients.
The purpose of the tournament is to raise funds for Achievement Fellow scholarships, providing life-changing support to BYU Law students who have qualified to attend law school after overcoming a wide range of challenges, including but not limited to poverty, discrimination, homelessness, abuse, and disabilities. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and contributors at the golf tournament, BYU Law raised enough money to fully fund an Achievement Fellow Scholarship for the 2025–2026 academic year.
1L Alumni Breakfast
“Intro to Law” Week kicked off a new semester at the Law School, including alumni gathering for breakfast with the incoming Class of 2028. The new students were able to connect with alumni, receive encouragement, and hear the insights and advice of previous BYU Law graduates.
The incoming 122 students boast a median LSAT of 170 and a median GPA of 3.95, on par with other leading law schools, including Duke and UCLA. BYU Law is also excited to welcome nine new LLM students from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Israel, Jordan, the Philippines, and Tanzania.
Founders Day Dinner
One of the highlights of the season was the Annual Founders Day Dinner, held at the Church Office Building in Salt Lake City. Guests were able to connect with one another at the welcome reception sponsored by Bennett Tueller Johnson & Deere, Workman Nydegger, Maschoff Brennan, and David Bertoch before heading to the 26th Floor to begin the night’s program.
We were honored to hear from this year’s Keynote Speaker, Justice Jill M. Pohlman of the Utah Supreme Court. Dean Moore and Alumni President Jonathan Madsen also spoke, and Catherine Bramble and Eric Jensen were honored as the 2025 Alumni Professors of the Year. The evening served as a reminder of the Law School’s remarkable history and bright future.
2025 Alumni Reunion Weekend
On September 5–6, BYU Law hosted its 2025 Class Reunion Weekend, celebrating Alumni from the classes of 1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2020. In the early afternoon, the Law School sponsored tours and a CLE presentation about AI and the Law, presented by Nick Hafen.
On Friday evening, attendees were welcomed with a banquet dinner, with presentations from Dean Moore and Jonathan Madsen on the continued success of BYU Law. The highlight of the evening was time well spent with classmates in each class’s assigned room at the Law School.
On Saturday, the Reunion Classes and other Alumni enjoyed J. Dawgs catering and a visit from Cosmo the Cougar at a fun-filled tailgate held on the Law School’s west patio before the BYU vs. Stanford football game.
Thank you to all sponsors and attendees for making this summer’s events possible, and for continuing to make the BYU Law Alumni Association successful. We hope to see you at events in the future!
